Grant, in his blog post spoke extensively about a certain type of silent sickness- a killer making its rounds in the northeastern asian region of the globe. He says that the locals and other such sources of news name it ‘coronavirus.’ What an odd name for a sickness. Corona, of course, as the great Italian astrologer Galileo observed as the rim around the suns beautifully powerful rays. Perhaps this is because of the great temperatures this dangerous sickness causes in the patients it infects. Perhaps many of your haven’t heard of the great Galileo, as I’m sure many of is discoveries have been declared redundant and unnecessary based on the advances of your machinery and mathematical skills in the past two hundred years. But that is irrelevant of course, there I go moving off the topic again.
I am thankful that the years I lived in England, we were devoid of that dangerous beast of the black plague, it had already recessed by the time I was born in… in 17.. the year was in that time period, I can’t recall too well, what with my entire brain being frozen, I’m sure you understand. Either way, the great black death had ceased taking those much before I existed, but my great great grandparents unfortunately lost many that they had known to it. I address this of course, as the corona virus has been creating large amounts of hysteria in the United States of America as of recent. I of course worry for these people, knowing myself much more recently than all of you how such a sizable disease can cause panic and even bring about large amounts rates of mortality.
However, something about this situation you all- or we all are facing today, is very different than the tales of the great plague I was told by my parents and fellow sailors. The largest discrepancy of course, comes from the fact that, as I’ve been recently told, physicians have actually managed to solve the riddle of the deadly virus, and were able to create a combination of natural and artificial substances that can cure and more-so prevent the plague from infecting human beings. Imagine if we had this kind of science back in my time! How the face of the world would have looked so different! Because of the doctors of your day, we have so many magical things that can keep us healthy as gods! Not even the poor are generally excluded from these kinds of treatments (which of course is not entirely true and many would argue leaves much to be desired), but being able to cure what the people of my time believed was a curse, well, I have no words!
Advances like these give me ease of mind and hope for the future. Although it so aches to leave my wife and children behind in the past, I am ever so glad to be exploring this mystical future and charting it on this blog of mine – In a sense, I remained a cartographer, how funny!
